Charming farmyard scene depicting a rooster, several hens and a farmyard bird, probably a pigeon, evolving in the foreground in a rural environment.

The composition is organized around a ground of earth and straw, at the foot of a wooden fence and a rough shelter. In the background, an open landscape unfolds with a few buildings in the distance, under a blue sky animated by light clouds.

The whole is treated with a supple touch and a search for atmosphere, characteristic of nineteenth-century animal painting, in the tradition of the Belgian and Dutch schools.

The work is executed in oil on mahogany panel, a support frequently used in northern European workshops for its stability.

It is presented in a later wood and gilded stucco frame, previously cut and adapted to the panel's dimensions.
