Ex-voto Of Saint Joseph, Solid Silver, Sacred Heart Of Fire, Early 19th Century
Artist: Unknown
One of the latest acquisitions from a collection of French antiques. From a small collection in Paris.
This medium-sized solid silver Sacred Fire Heart is a striking representation of divine love, sacrifice and devotion.
It is usually adorned with radiant flames, symbolizing Christ's ardent love for humanity. The flames, sometimes stylized into elongated or sinuous shapes, lend the heart an ethereal, almost living quality. The silver retains traces of gilding, a timeless beauty that makes it an ancient relic of faith.
In Catholic tradition, particularly in France, Spain and Latin America, Sacred Hearts were often displayed on altars or worn as protective amulets. This piece bears the initials "S.J." for Saint Joseph. Floral motifs adorn each side.
The object is hallmarked on both sides. On the flame side: "Déposé" (copyright), the French hallmark and an unknown maker's mark. Opposite side: only the French hallmark. I also found a tiny hallmark on the flames. The inside is gold-plated.
Height: 9.2 cm
Width: 5.3 cm
Occasion, but in good condition.
Thank you for your visit! Sincerely, Ben
