Antique Soup Tureen 1890-1910 Gien Iron-earth Opaque Porcelain Chardons Model
Beautiful small antique earthenware tureen, Manufacture de Gien, "Chardons" model, Belle Époque, late 19th/early 20th century, circa 1890-1910. Dark blue printed design of stylized thistles. Slightly creamy ivory-white earthenware, characteristic of opaque Gien porcelain. Soup tureen complete with its original lid, featuring an attractive grip. Lateral handles in the same taste. The decoration on the lid is slightly darker than that on the body, a frequent difference on early pieces, linked to different firings or baths. Marked on the underside with the factory coat of arms "Porcelaine Opaque de Gien - Chardons".
Approx. 14cm high with lid, 22cm diameter, 27cm wide with handles, 8.5cm high without lid. Very good overall condition considering age. Visible cracks from use, both inside and out. A few old and discreet enamel chips on the handles. No cracks or chips. Approx. 1.600kg
