Artist: Ernest Hareux (1847-1909)
New work by Ernest Hareux, this time a boulder in the undergrowth, oil on panel signed lower right.
Size of painting alone unframed 26.5x35cm and 43.5x52.5cm including frame.
Provenance: Collection Louis Vionnet, acquired since at least the 1950s, then remained in the family until today
This is another very fine oil on panel by Ernest Hareux, here he paints a boulder in an undergrowth, the work is not located, it could be the path that runs along the banks of Sedelle in Creuse as there are large boulders that resemble those painted here....In any case, Hareux delivers a magnificent composition, of extreme finesse, painted around 1890, I think. The painter was then in full command of his art, his touch is powerful, his drawing precise and finally his coloring most subtle, a painting worthy of the best French painters of the 19th century.
Ernest Hareux is an essential painter of two schools, that of Crozant and that of the French painters.of Crozant and the Dauphiné mountain painters, as Crozant andCrozant and Grenoble would be his two points of attachment.it was Léon Detroy who bought his studio in Crozant, today owned by the painter Laberthonnière.
