Vietnamese Diamond-shaped Corner Console - 1889 Paris World's Fair
Rare and elegant diamond-shaped corner console table, made in Vietnam at the end of the 19th century, in the context of productions destined for the 1889 Paris World's Fair.
.The mitered top adopts a particularly original geometry. It is richly decorated with finely engraved bone inlay, depicting a lively lake scene: pavilions and palatial architecture, figures, boats and vegetation in a landscape of literate inspiration. The whole is framed by stylized friezes and symbolic motifs.
The openwork belt is punctuated by small turned colonnettes and highlighted by bone-inlaid decoration with vegetal and symbolic motifs (bats, fish, stylized elements).
The base, composed of four straight uprights also inlaid, frames a remarkable triangular low shelf, entirely carved and openwork, centered with a dragon evolving in clouds, an emblematic motif of power and protection.
The set displays very fine craftsmanship, both in the finesse of the inlays and in the carving of the lower tabletop.
Very good condition: structurally sound and stable, no visible restoration, complete inlays.
