Portrait Of A Bourgeois Woman In A Richly Embroidered Costume, Dated 1759

Oil on canvas depicting the portrait of a middle-aged woman, dressed in a lavish costume with floral motifs and wearing a bonnet made of precious fabric—likely with gold thread—adorned with polychrome patterns and edged with fine lace.
The work bears a partially preserved inscription on the side:
“...ing” or “...ung,” followed by “pinxit 1759,” indicating that it was painted in the 18th century. As the canvas was previously cropped, the signature is now truncated.
The quality of the execution is particularly evident in the natural rendering of the face and hands, as well as in the delicate rendering of the lace and fabric, attesting to the skill of a painter who had mastered his craft, likely active in a bourgeois context.
The old support, the structure of the canvas, and the stretcher confirm a dating consistent with the second half of the 18th century.
Stylistic and sartorial analysis allows this portrait to be attributed to the Rhineland region, reflecting a blend of French influences and Germanic traditions.
A charming work, representative of portrait painting in bourgeois circles.

Condition: In very good overall condition considering the age of the work, despite a small dent in the upper right corner and a few scratches on the left side of the painting.
