Equestrian Armor Fittings - 16th Century
Iron plates made using the sand casting technique and then cicled on a gilded background.
They are most likely ornamental elements mounted on leather parts of a "bard", a defensive iron horse armor.
They feature a vegetal decoration composed of foliage and a vase of flowers.
For comparison, you can find a illustrated detail of a breastplate with foliage decoration, dated to the second half of the 16th century, preserved in the collections of the Musée de l'Armée.
Very good overall condition, with no defects to report.
Dimensions:
Length: 7.9 cm
Width: 4.1 cm
Thickness: 0.15 cm
France, circa 1600.
