Travel Inkwell, Known As A “cornet D’écritoire” – Early 19th Century
Covered horn inkwell, composed of several compartments, including one containing the ink in a pear-shaped vessel.
The inkwell comprises four receptacles intended respectively for sand, ink, quills, and spare quills.
The term cornet d’écritoire refers, until the early 19th century, to this type of inkwell, which was often made of horn.
Each compartment is secured by a screw mechanism; the present example features five such closures.
Good overall condition; some elements show signs of deterioration caused by moth activity.
