Jean BAUDET (Paris 1914 – Anglet 1989) The Port of Biarritz Oil on canvas, signed lower right H: 38 cm x W: 55 cm Biography of Jean BAUDET: Jean Baudet, born in Paris on July 18, 1914, and died in Anglet on May 24, 1989, was a French painter of the School of Paris whose mother was Basque. He notably depicted the countryside, the coast, and the ports of the Basque Country in drawings, gouache, and oils, preferably applied with palette knives and spatulas. Jean Baudet graduated from the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris. After a short period at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts, he began working as a set designer at the Opéra and later as head set designer at the Comédie-Française workshops. He exhibited in Parisian salons: the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon Comparaisons, and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, of which he was a member and jury member. He was married to Berthe Grimard, daughter of the painter and watercolorist André Grimard, and herself a painter, who bequeathed some of her works to the Basque Museum and the History Museum of Bayonne.
