Célestin Lietaer (Paris 1874 – ? 1951) Old Béarn – Rue de Salies Watercolor, signed lower right H: 64.5 cm x W: 53 cm A painter of portraits, then landscapes, Célestin Lietaer (1874–1951) divided his time between Biarritz and Salies-de-Béarn. A student of Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. He frequently depicted the French Basque Country, Béarn, and northern Spain, primarily in watercolor. A retrospective exhibition of his works was held in Bayonne in 1955. The Basque Museum in Bayonne owns several watercolors by Célestin Lietaer.
