Biography of Pierre-Louis Cazaubon (1873–1950): 

Pierre-Louis Cazaubon was a French painter and decorator specializing in genre scenes, landscapes, and seascapes, born on June 28, 1873, in Bordeaux, where he died in 1950.
A student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, where he joined the studio of the landscape painter Louis-Alexandre Cabié, he became a member of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1905. In 1919, he decorated the drawing room of the Hôtel Frugès with a fresco depicting the port of Bordeaux in the 16th century. He also adorned a meeting room at the Bordeaux Maritime Exchange with several paintings depicting the history of the port.
The port of Bordeaux remained a recurring source of inspiration for him.
Having assimilated the principles of Naturalism, Impressionism, and photographic composition, Cazaubon became a master in the art of depicting ships and capturing the activities of this port, as illustrated by our painting. Behind the figures and the gabare in the foreground, one can make out other ships and the Maritime Exchange, as well as, in the distance, the Pont de Pierre and the spire ofthe Basilica Saint-Michel, which towers over the port at a height of 114 meters.
