Jean Etcheverrigaray (1877 – 1952) “La Rhune seen from Urrugne” Oil on panel signed lower left H: 19 cm x L: 27 cm Biography of Jean Etcheverrigaray: Self-taught painter, born in Saint-Jean-de-Luz on the 8th October 1877. Building painter, musician, curious mind, he learned to paint with Floutier. He was at the origin of the creation of the Municipal Harmony of St-Jean-de-Luz. He is the author of numerous fandangos A retrospective exhibition on his work took place in 1993 in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, where he died in 1952. The composition of our painting can be compared to the painting by Floutier entitled “View of the Basque Country, La Rhune animated », No. 808 in the catalog raisonné of Mary-Anne Prunet, and representing the Rhune seen from the Allée des Platanes in Urrugne.
