Songye N'kissi Fetish
Male fetish, object of magic, from the Songye culture, Congo. The object is loaded with antelope horns, animal skins, cords and metal bracelets. The eyes are symbolized by cowrie shell inclusions, and the base of the legs is eroded in places. There is also a deep patina of use and oxidized wood on the eroded parts, all signs of the object's age, which must date back to the end of the 19th century. The object comes from the collection of N. Hug (Paris), having been purchased in 2008 at a public auction at Drouot (Bonnemaison collection). The object is authentic and has not been restored.
