Tiv Wedding Gong
Tiv wedding gong, Nigeria, bronze and iron, 45 cm, late 19th-early 20th century, former N. Hug collection (Paris). This ceremonial gong was used at traditional weddings. The man and woman, back to back, are sculpted on a bronze cast, linked to the iron gong. The sculpture of the couple serves as a handle. A beautiful patina of use and oxidation can be seen on the various parts of the instrument, testifying to its age. This object is authentic and has not been restored.
