Intended to accompany its owner on his travels, it could be hung or simply placed, providing an intimate space for prayer in all circumstances.The central panel depicts the Virgin and Child, treated according to Orthodox iconographic canons, surrounded by a frame of intense polychrome enamels, dominated by deep blues and luminous greens. The finely molded side panels feature various scenes and holy figures, enlivened by a profusion of decoration typical of Russian religious art of the period.The whole piece is cast in bronze and richly enamelled, using a traditional technique that lends the object both brilliance and depth.
