Pair Of Worshiping Angels Made Of Cast Iron — Antique Altar Sculpture — Cou23ang001

Pair of adoring angels in cast iron — Antique altar statuary — Height 50 cm, ideal for adorning two pilasters in 19th-century properties COU23ANG001

Pair of kneeling adoring angels, cast iron, with a gold/bronze patina, originally intended to frame a crucifix, a tabernacle, or an altar reliquary in a church or chapel. But ideal for the entrance of a 19th-century estate, to be mounted on the columns in place of the usual Medici basins... Or for a private chapel

The two angels are depicted kneeling, hands clasped in prayer, their faces turned toward one another in a classic, symmetrical, and devotional composition—a typical arrangement for adoring angels placed on either side of the tabernacle on 19th-century Catholic high altars.
Each is clad in a richly sculpted, draped tunic, cinched at the waist, and bears large, outstretched wings rendered with a wealth of detail (finely chiseled plumage, typical of the artistic foundry work of that era).
The curly hair, the face with soft features, and the supple drapery attest to high-quality casting, in the tradition of the great 19th-century French art foundries (such as Val d’Osne, Durenne, and others, which specialized in cast-iron religious and garden furnishings).

Each angel rests on a rectangular, stepped base that matches the pedestal, allowing them to be displayed in pairs on either side of a central element (cross, Christ, monstrance).

Beautiful antique patina, gilded with bronze, showing signs of wear and oxidation consistent with the piece’s age, giving the surface a highly decorative sheen. Substantial weight (solid cast iron), a mark of authenticity and the quality of period craftsmanship.

Height: 50 cm (each angel)
Cast iron, bronze/gilded patina

Beautiful antique patina, signs of wear, and small chips in the gilding in places, consistent with the piece’s age and exposure. No major visible damage (wings, hands, and heads intact).
