Silver Censer, France, Ca. 1853, By Joseph Favier

A repoussé and chased silver censer, accompanied by its thick brass burner (new and perfectly crafted to match the shape).
The circular base is accented, along the rim, by a frieze of lanceolate leaves. The bowl, with a domed shape and pronounced relief, is adorned with gadroons in its lower section and a decoration of acanthus leaves and garlands of ribboned flowers in its upper section.
The lid consists of a circular band decorated with floral motifs and three curved, geometric pilasters supporting an openwork dome engraved with acanthus leaves and lanceolate leaves. The handle is topped with a flame-shaped knob.
The silver-plated metal chains are adjustable in length as needed.
This censer was crafted by Joseph Favier, a Toulouse-based silversmith who, like all the Favier brothers, specialized in the creation of liturgical artworks, around 1853.
