Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Vase With Magu And Shoulao, Jingdezhen, C. 1870
A Chinese porcelain baluster vase decorated in famille-rose enamels with auspicious scenes centred on longevity. One side depicts the Daoist immortal Magu beside a deer and a youthful attendant, a traditional motif associated with long life and official success.
The reverse shows Shoulao, the god of longevity, recognised by his high forehead, long beard, staff and peach of immortality. Together the scenes express wishes for long life, honour and prosperity.
The decoration follows the refined fencai tradition of Jingdezhen, with softly modelled figures and careful tonal shading. Raised enamel details add texture and depth, particularly in the beard and robes.
The vase has a baluster form with moulded animal-mask handles supporting loose rings at the shoulders. The palette and technique indicate production in Jingdezhen during the Late Qing period, around 1870.
