Large Decorative Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Vase Lamp Interior Design

A large and impressive antique Chinese blue and white porcelain vase, later converted into a lamp, dating to the late Qing period, circa 1880–1910.

The vase is of elegant baluster form with a tall flaring neck, painted in underglaze cobalt blue with finely composed panels depicting traditional auspicious subjects. These include a deer in a mountainous landscape beneath pine trees, symbolising longevity and prosperity, and a Buddhistic lion (shishi), emblematic of protection and strength.

The painting is of top quality in subject and execution, entirely by hand, with good tonal variation in the cobalt and lively detailing throughout.

The vase has been drilled and mounted as a lamp, as is often encountered, and now functions as an attractive and substantial decorative lighting piece. The height of the porcelain body alone is 57.5 cm, giving it an impressive presence in an interior setting.

Condition: Good condition overall. The base has been drilled for wiring and has hairline cracks. The neck has been reduced, and there is a small chip to the rim.
