Napoleon III Enamel And Silver Smelling Salt Or Perfume Bottle, With Herbs And Insects
This charming amphora-shaped bottle is made of black enamel with a continuous colored enamel decoration depicting grasses, lily stems, and forget-me-nots, interspersed with delicate gold scrolls and a finely enameled butterfly.
The stopper, decorated in a similar style, is adorned with a delicate beetle.
The hinged mount is made of chased silver, hallmarked on the collar with a boar's head and an unidentified maker's mark.
Very careful restorations have been made to the base and one edge of the stopper.
In excellent condition, France, Napoleon III period, circa 1860.
