Coral And Gold Brooch, Napoleon III Period
This large brooch in orange-red coral from the Mediterranean (from Sciacca?) is carved with a couple in the clouds. They may be angels, we think we can make out wings. The scene is full of life and movement, the man rushes towards the woman, stretching out his arms while she lowers her head towards him.
The setting is in yellow gold, the pin is marked 1849 and bears illegible partial hallmarks (maker's initials and 5).
C clasp, perfectly functional system.
Gold tested with a touchstone between 14 and 18 carats, probably a 15 carat alloy traditional on jewelry from this period.
Note: Chip on the man's elbow.
Very good condition, Napoleon III period, 1849.
Dimensions 6.3cm x 3.6cm x 1.7cm.
Weight 20g
