Meiji Brush Pot On A Base, Gold Lacquered Decoration, 19th Century
This large Meiji period (1868-1912) brush pot consists of a cylindrical section of fine wood, decorated with maki-e lacquer depicting wading birds and other birds in a wooded and leafy lakeside landscape.
The heavy carved wooden base is also lacquered brown and gold. There are some old cracks.
VERY GOOD CONDITION, Japan, Meiji period, late 19th century.
