18th-century Box, Painted On All Sides, With Silver And Tortoiseshell Trim

This lovely box is made of dark wood, similar to rosewood; the lid is adorned with a miniature depicting a group of three ladies and two young men chatting near a fountain in a wooded park.
The sides of the box are also painted with a landscape scene that is now worn.

Despite some areas of loss, the colors remain vivid.
18th century, circa 1790.

The bottom is decorated with a view of a wooded park featuring a pond and statues under a twilight sky.
It was much loved and bears the marks of that affection, with signs of wear and chips in the paintwork.
The base and lid are adorned with a fine brown tortoiseshell border and a silver mount engraved with decorative bands.
The interior is lined with red-stained tortoiseshell on the reverse side.

Despite a few chips, the colors are still vibrant.
Dated to the 18th century, circa 1790.
