1920s Malachite Spider Pendant Necklace On Faceted Crystal
This rare 1920s pendant depicts a spider with a carved malachite body and vermeil legs on a large oval faceted crystal. The vermeil silver bail has been tested with a touchstone.
It is mounted with a removable gilt metal and cubic zirconia bail on a long chain of cut crystal cubes with rosary links in rolled gold-plated metal.
These insect-themed jewels on crystal, fashionable from the late Victorian era through the 1920s, are more often adorned with a beetle or flies carved from hardstone. This is the only one we have seen depicting a spider!
