18th Century Nesting Travel Set
Antique travel cutlery set, consisting of a knife and a three-pronged fork that nest inside each other to form a compact case. The handles are sheathed in ivory with an engraved wavy design, and the silver alloy rim is engraved with the same motif.
George Washington, the first president of the United States, used the same model when traveling. His own set is on display at the Philadelphia History Atwater Kent Museum in Philadelphia. The steel blades show wear and oxidation consistent with age. The set is in used condition, with a patina of age and visible wear to the metal.
