Bayadère Cashmere Coat - Ottoman Empire Circa 1900
Circa 1900 Ottoman Empire. A beautiful Belle Époque European-style coat in striped cashmere, dating from the Belle Époque. It features a fitted cut with a shawl collar and elbow-length sleeves with small leg-of-mutton cuffs, adorned with chased metal buttons. The base is striped cashmere of Ottoman or Persian production, known as Khatraz, with a crocheted weave in a tapestry stitch or striped pattern. This type of striped decoration is found in the iconography of the second half of the 19th century, particularly on shawls commonly called Bayadère in Provence. An interesting example of fashion in Turkey around 1900, largely inspired by European styles. In mint condition for an antique textile, it has likely been little or never worn. Lined with black silk taffeta. This piece was collected in Istanbul, Turkey. No moth holes and the colors are vibrant. Excellent condition in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: Height 104 cm, Shoulders 37 cm, Collar 7 cm, Sleeves 56 cm, Chest 89 cm, Waist 82 cm, Hips 110 cm
