Heavy 10k Gold Csun Class Ring 1983, Jostens

A substantial American university class ring made to individual order for a graduate of California State University, Northridge. Crafted in solid 10K gold (417), the ring has a notably heavy and well-balanced construction, characteristic of higher-grade class rings of the late 20th century.

The design centres on a large oval red stone measuring approximately 12 × 10 mm, typical of American class rings of the period and most likely synthetic ruby or spinel. The stone is securely set within a robust bezel engraved with the full university name, California State University Northridge. The shoulders are detailed with “1983”, likely the year of graduation or enrolment, and “BS” indicating Bachelor of Science.

Inside the band is a personalised engraving reading “Denny Shea ΔΤΔ” (Delta Tau Delta fraternity). The interpretation of the name is based on careful visual examination of the photographs; due to the hand-engraved nature of the inscription, minor uncertainties are possible, and prospective buyers are encouraged to review the images closely.

The ring was manufactured by Jostens, established in 1897 and widely recognised as the leading American producer of academic and commemorative jewellery. Jostens rings were traditionally made to individual order, incorporating personal, academic, and organisational elements. The piece was produced by casting with subsequent finishing and engraving, resulting in a solid and durable structure rather than a lightweight stamped example.

This ring represents an authentic and personalised artefact of American university culture of the early 1980s, connected to a specific graduate, academic achievement, and fraternity membership. It offers both intrinsic gold value and historical interest as a period piece of academic jewellery.
