Important Wall-mounted Console Composed Of Antique Elements, Late 17th And 19th Centuries.
An important wall-mounted console table composed of antique elements from different periods, skillfully brought together in a coherent and highly decorative whole. This 20th-century decorative work intelligently combines antique elements in a highly successful architectural and ornamental style. It rests on two substantial 19th-century sculpted limestone consoles, whose double-spiral form is directly rooted in the vocabulary of classical architecture. This inverted console profile, both dynamic and structured, evokes the cornice and corbel supports of the 17th and 18th centuries. The sculpted decoration is rich and expressive: the bulges are adorned with deeply carved acanthus leaves, while the backgrounds are treated with a grid pattern. This contrast between relief and structured surface is characteristic of the end of Louis XIV's reign and the beginning of the Regency, a transitional period in which decoration retained a strong architectural rigor while becoming more flexible. These stone elements, although crafted in the 19th century, faithfully reproduce this ornamental vocabulary, establishing a particularly coherent dialogue with the antique tabletop they support. The tabletop is the centerpiece of the ensemble. It is a remarkable marquetry panel, likely originating from a piece of furniture from the Rhine Valley, Alsace, or Germany, dating from the late 17th century. Its decoration is organized according to a system of finely drawn geometric cartouches, structured by a particularly sophisticated network of lines. These are not simply juxtaposed, but intertwine and overlap according to an interlacing principle, creating a design of great graphic richness. This type of composition, where the line becomes a true decorative element, is characteristic of Rhenish productions influenced by Germanic and Dutch traditions. The walnut veneer, worked in a herringbone pattern, develops superb grain and moiré effects, offering a vibrant and nuanced surface. The piece features an elegant geometric composition, where the quality of the wood and the interplay of the grain take precedence over figurative ornamentation. The tabletop is framed by a substantial molded apron of antique oak, adding structure and depth to the whole. The surface has been finished with a traditional hot wax, giving the wood a beautiful depth of tone and a warm patina perfectly suited to its age. The entire piece is demountable and securely assembled using antique wrought iron screws. Two discreetly placed metal brackets on the back allow for wall mounting, ensuring stability and security, and confirming its purpose as a wall-mounted console. Through the quality of its components and the ingenuity of their combination, this console offers a particularly successful dialogue between architecture and furniture, bridging the late 17th and 19th centuries, in a composition conceived in the 20th century. It is a striking, unique, and elegant piece, ideal for a characterful interior. Dimensions: Width: 158 cm Depth: 46 cm Height: 94 cm
