"Travel Writing Case In Precious Wood, Latticework Marquetry And Diamond Points"
Travel writing case in precious wood, latticework marquetry and diamond points – Napoleon III period. Curved travel writing case, made during the Second Empire, in precious wood veneer and adorned with very fine decorative marquetry. The lid features a violet wood latticework composition, delimiting squares turned on the point, each formed of four pieces of rosewood assembled in a diamond point. This regular geometric pattern creates a structured, elegant and discreet decoration, in the decorative spirit of the 19th century. The whole is framed by a copper rod on wood, highlighting the fretwork of the top. The sides, also curved, are veneered in rosewood arranged vertically. The interior opens in two flaps. The upper top is upholstered in its original purple velvet, edged with a matching braid, with an old reglued tear. The lower compartment is designed for storing writing supplies, with rosewood veneered compartments. The lock is present but not functional. This type of writing desk, compact and refined, was designed to accompany its owner during travels or to constitute a personal portable writing station.
