Set Of Large Caviar Spoons In Solid Silver And Russian Vermeil. Late 19th Century.

A beautiful set of six Russian vermeil caviar or dessert spoons.

The spoons have twisted handles, and the egg-shaped bowl is decorated with vermeil-engraved flowers on a white silver background.
A circular cartouche is left blank for future engraving.

One spoon differs slightly from the other five: the bowl design varies, and the handle is not fully twisted.

Each spoon is hallmarked:
. 84 for 84 zolotniks, corresponding to a fineness of 875/1000.

. Saint George for the city of Moscow. The assayer's mark AP, probably for A. Romanov, and dated 1889. A different assayer, AA, remains to be identified for the single spoon.

Superb spoons with a beautiful contrasting decoration between the vermeil and white silver. The pieces are heavy, a testament to the quality of their craftsmanship.
