A superb mid-19th-century cabinet piece of remarkable presence, entirely covered in gilt and exquisitely engraved ornamental decoration, preserved in its original leather-lined case with a blue velvet interior. The surface is enlivened by a continuous decoration of finely chiseled scrolls and floral motifs, extending across the entire hilt with a regularity and decorative richness characteristic of Second Empire luxury pieces. The gilt, particularly well preserved, offers a warm and deep gleam, highlighting the relief of the decoration and giving the piece a sculptural presence. The barrel bears the inscription "Beringer brevet à Paris," referring to Béatus Béringer, a Parisian gunsmith active from the 1830s onward, a contemporary of Casimir Lefaucheux. This inscription places the object within the context of the first technical innovations of the 19th century, while also contributing to its high-end positioning intended for a wealthy clientele.
