"mediterranean Fishermen" By Max Bouvet (1854-1940)
Artist: Max Bouvet ( 1854 - 1940 )
Nicolas Maximilien Bouvet, known as Max Bouvet, born on December 3, 1854, in La Rochelle, and died on August 5, 1940, in Joigny, was a French opera singer, baritone, and also a Post-Impressionist plein air painter. Max Bouvet, as a painter, is primarily known for his seascapes in a Post-Impressionist style, often depicting Breton and Vendée landscapes. It is not uncommon to see operatic and dramatic artists passionately, and sometimes skillfully, pursue an art form alongside their own. "The pleasure of life is made of change," as the saying goes. "Moonrise, at Dusk" is now in the Reims Museum. Progress is evident; so too is the renown of Max Bouvet's seascapes and landscapes, vibrant with warm light, infinitely varied in impression and tone, featured in all the major exhibitions in Paris, the provinces, and abroad. The Queen of the Belgians acquired several canvases by this painter of two talents, and displayed them at the Royal Castle of Laeken. Sometimes, an art form alongside their own. The pleasure of life is made of change, as the saying goes. Oil on panel, signed lower right. Size: 33 x 41 cm. With original gilt frame from 1925: 43 x 51 cm.
