A beautiful anatomical plate depicting a cross-section of the human brain, taken from the famous medical work by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797–1849) and illustrated by the painter and artist Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782–1871).
This lithograph is part of the monumental work titled Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, published in Paris between 1831 and 1854 and considered one of the most remarkable anatomical atlases of the 19th century.
The plate presented here is from Volume III, numbered Pl. 18. It depicts with great precision a dissection of the brain performed from life, characteristic of the scientific and artistic rigor of Nicolas Henri Jacob’s plates.
Lithograph printed by Lemercier, Bernard et Cie in Paris, one of the most important lithographic workshops of the 19th century.
These anatomical plates were intended to illustrate the medical and scientific works of the time and are today sought after both for their historical interest and their aesthetic quality.
Condition: good overall condition, paper is in excellent condition.
