African Chef's Wooden Tribal Stool - Bamileke
Artist: Bamikélé
Monoxyle stool of African chief richly carved in wood with brown patina, with circular seat chiseled with double-headed fetish snakes and masks, resting on four columns carved in relief with stylized mygales in the center of which is a zoomorphic leopard.
The mygale is the symbol of wisdom and has a divinatory function.
The leopard embodies certain attributes like speed, survivability and aggressiveness that were transfered to the king. The leopard became the most important royal symbol, like an "alter ego" of the king.
