Art Nouveau Desk With 'thistles', Circa 1900, In Mahogany.
The top, with its crow's beak edge, is covered in tan leather with a gilt braid featuring a thistle motif. It rests on four stretchers, two of which have molded compartments in light mahogany and open to three drawers with bronze fittings. The two side stretchers are single-paneled in mahogany. The whole rests on an H-shaped base composed of four sturdy cabriole legs, with feet carved with thistle leaves in branches. The legs are joined by undulating brackets with similar motifs. A beautiful piece of furniture, typical of the Art Nouveau style, from the Nancy School, in very good original condition.
