Large Altar Antependium In Crimson Velvet And Gold Trim – Baroque Liturgical Textile

A spectacular liturgical altar frontal in crimson silk velvet, designed to adorn the front of an altar, remarkable for its substantial dimensions (327 cm long by 92 cm high) and the richness of its textile decoration.

The surface is made of deep red silk velvet, whose shimmering reflections reveal the density and quality of the fabric. This crimson color, traditionally associated with dignity and sacrifice in Christian symbolism, was particularly used in the ornamentation of altars and liturgical spaces.
The whole is structured by a substantial gold metallic thread braid, extending over four meters in an elegant undulating pattern typical of 17th and 18th-century passementerie. The lower section is embellished with a gold metallic thread fringe approximately 7 cm high, reinforcing the effect of richness and the ceremonial character of the piece.
