Joaquin Angles. Bronze. The First Triumph
Artist: Joaquin Angles Cane
Catalonia, like France, is a land where Art Nouveau developed, giving everything—architecture, painting, and decorative objects—a particular flavor, an almost unprecedented vivacity. Joaquin Angles (1859–1911) was born in Tortosa, a Catalan city, but settled in Paris, certainly attracted by the artistic effervescence of the City of Lights. There he pursued a career as a sculptor, creating objects in the spirit of the times. "The First Triumph" is one of his works that met with considerable success; The youthful character of the model (reminiscent of Donatello's David with its nervous physique), the perfect composition, and the remarkably precise anatomy of this adolescent make this work a sensual and accomplished piece. The dark patina allows the light to play with his light and toned musculature, while the decorative elements (lyre, bouquet of flowers, diploma, musical score) add depth to the piece. Very good condition, excellent original patina.
