18th Century. Self-portrait Of Carl De Moor, Painter Of The Golden Age

This self-portrait by Carl de Moor (1656–1738) is part of the collection of the Dukes of Medici in Florence, now the Uffizi Gallery. 
This restoration was carried out in 1778, as revealed by the inscriptions on the back of the canvas, visible through the new lining. 
Indeed, it bears a hastily painted inscription in black paint: “Carlo da Moor Leyda, a monogram, pt 1778.”
This indicates that it was a talented painter—perhaps a student at the Academy of Rome—who wished to preserve the image of this little-known painting, which he encountered during his travels.
Indeed, the dynamic effect that da Moor sought to achieve is unconventional, as he shifted the composition’s focal point off-center. 
The painter has retained the oval shape characteristic of Florentine painting.
The quality of the execution is remarkable; the fabrics, silks, and open shirt are rendered with virtuosity, and the depiction of this youthful, likable face is excellent. 
In very good condition, currently unframed, it is full of vitality, depicting a young man ready to conquer the world.
