"Portrait Of A Turin Nobleman From The Early 18th Century "
Beautiful portrait of a Turin nobleman from the early 18th century in very good condition. Two small scratches on the varnish at the very top to be noted. Old relining. Beautiful original frame in gilded wood with laurel leaf decoration. The portrait comes from a private mansion in Turin. As a reminder of its historical context: Turin was the capital of the States of Savoy from 1563-1713. Following the Treaty of Utrecht which determined the abandonment of insular Sicily to the Duke of Savoy, Turin became the capital of the Kingdom of Sicily from 1713 to 1720 and then that of the Kingdom of Sardinia until 1861.
