Glazed terracotta sculpture. Signed Joseph Filmont in Caen. Bavent Potteries, early 20th century. Sculpture representing a pug or bulldog. The eyes are made of sulphide. Length: 26cm Height: 13cm Width: 17cm In perfect condition. Magnificent glaze finish. J. Filmont (1863-1917) established a pottery and architectural ceramics company in Caen at the very end of the 19th century. He became known for his production of architectural ceramics: ridge tiles, chimney pots, cat flaps, gargoyles, roof tiles, ridge finials, as well as ornamental animals and figures: snails, cats, dogs, squirrels, owls, pigeons, dragons, etc. The company obtained a vermeil medal in Caen in 1901. a gold medal at the Industrial Exhibition – Évreux 1903 and a gold medal at the Housing Exhibition – Paris 1903.
