Pair Of Cabriolet Armchairs With Medallion Backs – Louis XVI Period
An elegant pair of cabriolet armchairs in re-stained wood, from the Louis XVI period. The caned medallion backs are carved with floral motifs at the top. The recessed armrests, fitted with cuffs, rest on fluted, rudenté legs characteristic of the Louis XVI style.
The armchairs have retained their traditional upholstery and were recently reupholstered in Toile de Jouy fabric, in keeping with the original spirit. Previously refinished with white lead, they now display a beautiful patina from use.
In very good condition. A slight, discreet peeling—which does not affect the chair’s structural integrity—is visible on the left side of both medallion-backrests (see photos).
