Carved And Gilded Wooden Barometer-thermometer – Louis XVI Period
A Parisian medallion-shaped barometer-thermometer, made of richly carved and gilded wood. It features a design of garlands, foliage, ribbons, and a row of pearls surrounding the dial. The openwork pediment is adorned with ears of grain and small flowers, in the characteristic style of the Louis XVI period.
Signed “Magard à Paris,” this model is equipped with its original mechanism, including the mercury tube, the plunger, and the counter-plunger, all in working order.
Good overall condition. A few small areas where the original gilding is missing and a very slight misalignment of the blue-backed oculus indicating the various barometric conditions relative to the dial (see photos).
Work from the Louis XVI period, last quarter of the 18th century.
