Charming Baroque putto in high relief, depicted in a graceful pose. Probably Italian. Carved wood, 18th century. Polychrome composition. Repainted throughout. Height: 67 cm. Weight: 5 kg. Total width (including arms): 40 cm. Very good condition. The word "putto," from the Latin "putus" meaning "little boy," is associated with numerous ornamental motifs. Puttos play the role of either angelic spirits or harbingers of profane love and are inspired by the art of ancient Greece and Rome.
