Circa 1910, late Qing period
China
Beautiful informal jacket, mainly worn by Chinese women, dating from the late Qing period (1644-1911). Kimono cut with wide sleeves, slits at the sides and a small raised collar. Fastens at the front with three chased brass buttons secured with loops. Midnight blue silk satin background with polychrome embroidery arranged in a staggered pattern.... Peonies, bats and fish are finely embroidered using stem stitch and Peking stitch, highlighted with gold thread. Note the extreme fineness of the embroidery on the cuffs, which have retained traces of the stencil (micro-stains on the cuffs). Pink silk satin lining. Tiny frailty in the pink lining, which has been repaired over 2 cm (see last photo), otherwise no other defects to report. Clean jacket with vibrant colours. Good overall structural condition.
Flat dimensions: Height 95 cm, sleeves at shoulder level 122 cm. Sleeves 26 cm x 60 cm high. Flat base 95 cm.
