"Gaston Sébire "a Little Bit Of Norman Gardens""
School of Rouen, "A Little Bit of Norman Gardens," signed lower right G. Sébire. 65 x 46 cm. French School. Gaston Sébire (1920-2001) was a member of the "Young Painting" movement, which he founded in the early 1950s with his colleagues Bernard Buffet (1928-1999) and Jean Couty (1907-1991), among others. In 1953, the young artist was awarded a prize at the Casa Velázquez in Madrid, Spain. In 1973, Gaston Sébire was appointed an official painter of the French Navy. A native of Rouen, and a Parisian by adoption, he was a very active representative of the School of Paris. The Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, and the Casa Velázquez in Madrid all hold his works. Our bouquet of flowers, composed of a few Caen anemones and larkspur, offers us a glimpse of the most delightful aspects of Normandy's charming gardens. It testifies, without artifice, to Gaston Sébire's talent for capturing the warm colors and fragrant scents so dear to him. The frame is made of wood and stucco decorated in imitation of gilding (some damage to the frame). There is an old restoration near the bottom right of the vase. Overall good condition. 780 euros.
