Henri Paul Rolland In The Manner Of Monticelli
Artist: Henri Paul Rolland
Henri Paul Rolland in the manner of Monticelli. Oil on panel "exquise galanterie". Bears a trace of an apocryphal signature by Adolphe Monticelli, lower right. 47 X 37.5 cm (50 X 38.8 cm overall). French school.
Among the epigones of Adolphe Monticelli (1824-1886), Henri Paul Rolland (1891-1923) was undoubtedly the most gifted, infusing each of his works with the best of his talent. For, over and above his status as an unoriginal successor - and defined as such by the critics of the time - Rolland was indeed the worthy heir of a revolutionary painter whom even the indomitable Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) admired and then fervently collected in his own time.
Wood and gilded stucco baguette frame. An old restoration towards the top left of the panel. Good condition.
980 euros.
