Still life featuring a bouquet of flowers consisting mainly of dahlias and daisies depicted at various stages of bloom—some fully open, while others are still in bud.
Signed “G Bienvêtu” in the lower right corner.

Dimensions: 65 cm by 81 cm

The painting is offered with its original frame.

Gustvave Bienvêtu was a French painter born in 1850; his father, Auguste Étienne Bienvêtu, was a foundling found richly swaddled—hence his surname—at the Chartres hospital in 1825.
In 1850, he married Marie Journal, and that same year, Gustave was born. The family later moved to Colombes, where Gustave Bienvêtu spent his life painting particularly decorative floral compositions.

He was quite active in the life of his community in Colombes. An anticlerical and a republican, he was elected to the city council and then served as mayor for about ten months in 1887.

A high school and a preschool in Colombes now bear his name.
