Artist: Antoine Watteau Suiveur De
Antoine Watteau, follower of. Oil on canvas, "Serenade of Mezzetin," unsigned. 82 x 66 cm. French School. Jean Antoine Watteau (1684-1721). Our painting, dating from the mid-18th century, is a reinterpretation of a famous composition by Antoine Watteau: "Under the Costume of Mezzetin," held in the Wallace Collection (London, UK). It is worth noting that the artist focused his talent on Mezzetin's costume and his jacket with wide vertical stripes, as well as on the five-course Baroque guitar, an emblematic instrument of the 17th and 18th centuries. The small spaniel, nestled in the arms of the young child on the left of the composition, masterfully evokes the taste of the period for purebred pets. Modern giltwood frame. Old relining. Good condition. €3,600.
