"Karabag Rug - Armenia. Caucasus. Late 19th Century. 275 X 92 Cm"
Superb Caucasian rug from Karabakh, Armenia. Woven and knotted wool on wool in the traditional manner. The knotted knot is that of antique Caucasian rugs, very short, almost flat. The piece is supple and rather lightweight. The motifs are executed with extreme precision. One instantly senses the weaver's mastery. Eight medallions in the central field are surrounded by borders with star motifs. The plant-based hues are subtle and exceptionally elegant. Some colors are rather unexpected. All in perfect harmony. The rug has been finished with stoppers at both ends. The two outer borders are in perfect condition. Some restoration work has been carried out by a highly qualified professional. There are a few signs of wear in the central field, but they are quite discreet. The borders are intact. The piece is absolutely captivating; one is charmed at first sight. Circa 1880 or earlier. Very good condition. Dimensions: 275 x 92 cm. Laurent, Beauty of Kilims
