Maffrash Shahsaven Set + 2 Cushions. Persian. Circa 1900.
A very elegant Shahsaven Maffrash set comprising a 153 x 102 cm piece with two large panels and two cushions made from the two smaller panels. Originally, Maffrash were the largest carrying bags used by the nomadic populations of Persia and the Caucasus. They also served as prams once the camp was set up. Mixed wool-on-wool technique. Woven for the central section and Sumak for the four panels. The weave is extremely fine and refined; the motifs appear sculpted into the material. Make no mistake, this Maffrash represents the pinnacle of weaving excellence of the period. It is among the most precious objects, showcasing the full skill of the weavers. Circa 1900 or earlier. Perfect condition. The cushions have brick-colored velvet backs for softness and comfort. They measure 42 x 42 cm. The set is sold for €1000. Separately, the 153 x 102 cm Maffrash is €780. The pair of cushions is €300. If you are, like us, impressed by the beauty of such objects, I invite you to contact us directly.
